Cannes, France, 25 May - 2 June 2006: Film Festival Week
After The Frenzy, Calm

StarstruckCannes Film Festival is in full swing. Elaborate marquees, some topped with arabesque curved spires, line Cannes' beachfront promenade, Le Croissette. Beautiful people prance and parade here. Stars stage grand entrances. Bees to honey, the paparazzi have a field day.

Cannes MarinaCannes Marina
West of Le Croisette, a flotilla of small crafts berths at the marina. Boats make regular runs to the nearby Iles des Lerins. Farther afield, beaches, public and private, stretch along the bay into the distant Esterel peaks, offering respite from ardent cinephiles.

Le SuquetLe Suquet
Perched on a promontory near the marina, a fortress and belltower silently guard the old town, Le Suquet, that spreads beneath their shadows. Explore the cobbled streets. Quiet residences spring up unexpectedly a few doors away from the usual busy tourist shops.
